Post by Dee EarleyPost by Gerald RayI have been a happy owner of S&T since 2000, I've never had a problem with
S&T. I use it in sales to visit prospective clients on a daily basis, but
with the 2009 version, sometimes it takes 20 minutes for the GPS device to
lock onto a satellite configuration. And today it took 3 hours. S&T is
loosing all usefulness to me. Please help!! Running Vista 64bit bit rate for
the USB port is 4800 ...
S&T has no effect on the GPS lock.
It is entirely passive and the GPS does all the work and send location
data to S&T.
Has anything changed with its position recently?

I believe it is true that S&T has no effect on the GPS lock. It is also
true that the GPS does not directly display anything on the screen. What
you see is completely at the mercy of the operating system, drivers, and the
S&T software. If any of these three software systems is having problems,
then it will appear that it takes minutes or hours to lock on to the
satellites. S&T does not give any clues as to what it thinks is happening
during these extended locking in periods. The drivers also give no clues.
The OS may be leaving clues in the event logs, but I never think to check
there. S&T could be designed to have a diagnostic mode to log what it
thinks is happening; I'm thinking it would error out if it were not making
progress during these extended periods. I think M$ makes too much money on
their phone help services to ever include a logging option in the software
to give clues as to what is happening. When times are tough, go where the
money is!
