I was wondering if there was a way if you could make your own route on
Microsoft streets and trips 2010. I do know that they give you options of
what type of driving speeds you want and what type of roads you want. I
though have a route of my own in my mind that i would like to put on the
laptop to put onto the portable gps. Please help me. There has to be a way.
The program is fully customizable. i just don't know how to do it. Please
help me. Thanks!

It can create routes following any of the roads in its database.
Right click any item and you'll get an option to add as start, stop or
end point. and one of the side panels will show you all the stops and
allow you to calculate the final route.

If you want to create your own roads, then you can't easily.

What do you mean "your own route"? (Who else's route might it be?)

Do you know about the route planner? I don't know about S&T2010, but
in earlier versions there was a tool bar button with a car on it ---
click it and the route planner starts. Type in the start point and
the end point, then click "get directions". And there is your route.
Don't like the route it gave you? Add some way points to force the
route to be what you want. Or create an "avoid area" on the map to
prevent the route going into that area. Or change the preferences to
not choose those kinds of roads.

Oops! What portable gps?

o A gps plugged into your laptop that S&T uses? No problem.

o Transfer the route from S&T to some other stand-alone dash board
route-planner GPS device? I don't know, but the words "good luck"
come to mind. I think if you want to use such a device, you should do
your route-planning on that device.

Not sure what you mean by this either. I never thought of S&T as very
customizable, but then all I wanted to do was set it to kilometers and
24-hour clock.

If you don't like this answer, please expand your question.

Have fun.

If I were to plan a route using the S&T software than tranfer that from my
computer to an sd card and plug that into my GPS , would that route show up
on my GPS. perhaps someone can tell me. thanks

I don't know anything about this, but I expect that anybody who might
answer would need more information about "my GPS" than what you have
told us so far. Things like:

o what brand and model of GPS?
o is it supposed to be able import routes from S&T or from anyplace
else?
o what kinds / formats of files does it like?

have fun!

Not really.

All devices and software use their own format.
If you have S&T 2010, you can try the GPX export, or with everything
else, you can try GPSBabel to convert the saved map to a format suitable
for your unspecified GPS.
